A new award for the 2012 festival

The festival committee is please to announce a new award that will be awarded for the first time at the 2012 festival:

The Peter Goddard Memorial Award

The ensemble receiving the Peter Goddard Memorial Award will be chosen by the chairperson of the KBB Music Festival Committee having received nominations from committee members.

This award is endowed by the KBB Music Festival in recognition of the support given by Peter Goddard during his life time to the development of young musicians. Peter was a founding member of the Auckland Secondary School Band and Orchestra Festival and served on the committee for over 20 years. Whilst not a performer himself he valued the gift of music and recognised its importance in the lives of young people, irrespective of school decile or cultural background. Peter passed away in February 2012 and the festival committee has unanimously agreed to instigate an annual memorial award in his honour.

The award, which will be announced at the gala concerts, will be presented to an ensemble whose performance, presentation or behaviour embodies the values that Peter Goddard held.

  1. A fantastic tribute to a great man. Peter spent his life supporting and building up the adults and young people around him. This will be a much coveted award throughout the years ahead.

  2. Mr Goddard became acting principal in 1995 at St Stephens School, Bombay, Sth Akl when it was going through turmoil, he was appointed, I believe, by the MOE and the government of the day. I was 7th form, and deputy head boy at the time, I always found him to be an excellent listener, respectful and he often arrived early to school, prior to morning chapel to listen to our himene/hymn for the day. Moe mai e Te Rangatira, i to moengaroa…..nga manaakitanga
