Groups that may be in a more ‘developmental’ stage and do not wish to participate in the competitive section of the festival may instead apply to participate in the Fringe Festival.

The aim is to provide encouragement and constructive feedback that stimulates better music-making, with a view to possible full festival participation in future years. Groups will work with the adjudicator and will receive written comments, but will not be judged against a competitive scale.

In previous years the Fringe Festival has occurred on the final day of the festival. In 2011, it will be incorporated in the main festival schedule in order to benefit from the larger audiences and opportunities to watch experienced groups in their category.

Directors should enter their Fringe groups in the same way as any other ensemble but must select the Festival Box box under “entry level”. Please be aware that competitive ensembles will be given first priority for performance slots. Second priority will be given to schools who are only entering non-competitive groups.
